Dad's 80th Birthday Party

We celebrated Kimball's upcoming 80th birthday this Saturday since it may be the last birthday we get to spend with him due to his rapidly failing health.  Mom had set up a few mementos of Dad on the table and we had fun looking through his old pictures and yearbooks, not to mention the numerous awards he has won over the years.
My Mom, Dad and Ruth as a baby. Awe!
Dad was in the army and served in Korea but he never really talked about his time there so I don't know much more than that.   In fact, I realized looking through my Dad's things that he never really talked about his life growing up at all.  Odd and sad because I really don't know much about him as "Kimball", I just know him as Dad.
Dad looks handsome in his uniform and he has hair! I never knew my dad when he had hair. Maybe having kids made his hair fall out?

Watch out Cort, Gay will kick your a$$!

Dad and his six offspring aka you damn kids!!!!
Poor, poor Dad.  His lower legs are swollen from edema caused by congestive heart failure. They look awful and it breaks my heart. Sadly, there is nothing they can do for him other than try to keep him comfortable.

We had rain gutters installed on the ledge over the door at a contractors recommendation in hopes that would stop the water from pouring into our house.  It's not much to look at but....
For the first time in MONTHS the bucket by the back door does not fill with water every time it rains/snows.  I am cautiously thrilled!
We are going to watch it for a few weeks and make sure that no more water is coming in before we fix this fugly hole in our ceiling but it's been a week since the rain gutters went up and so far we haven't seen even a drop of water. Hooooooooooray!
